New Jersey requires the price statement shown beside each vehicle’s price. The advertised total must include mandatory dealer charges, including preparation and documentary charges; licensing costs, registration fees and taxes are the permitted exceptions. A documentary service fee is a dealer charge, not a government-required fee, and any such charge must be itemized by actual service and price in the sale document.

Each priced used-car advertisement must identify the year, make, model, engine cylinder count, VIN’s last eight characters and actual odometer reading at publication. Transmission, brakes, steering and air-conditioning information must be supplied where not standard equipment.
